For decades Almeria and surrounding area were the most economically depressed area
of Spain. Under Francisco Franko's urging,
his economic advisors were to find a way to help this area. One of the bright boys
knew that if irrigation water could be
brought to the desert, it could be like California. Franko okayed him drilling some
test wells, and abundant groundwater was
discovered. Here is the result -- miles and miles and miles of truck garden under
huge greenhouses.
